In May, SHaRM co-ordinated the distribution of school items including sports equipment, library books, primary school sized desks, computers, projectors, chairs and stationery items earmarked for Suango Mele Primary School and other schools in Port Vila.

Foundation member Stephanie Neilson’s sister Jacquie, a freelance NZ journalist, reported on the destruction of the Vanuatu schools when she visited in May 2015. As a result, generous donations were made by schools in North Otago NZ and before long the project had escalated into two containers full of donated goods and sporting equipment from Oamaru, New Zealand, bound for Port Vila.

In November 2015, SHaRM co-ordinated the distribution of school items including sports equipment, library books, primary school sized desks, computers, projectors, chairs and stationery items earmarked for Suango Mele Primary School and other schools in Port Vila.  Some items are remaining and these will be fully allocated July 2016.

Welcome to SHaRM Foundation

On the night of March 13th 2015, Super Cyclone Pam hit the island nation of Vanuatu. Made up of 100 small islands, Vanuatu is the home of 250,000 people, many of whom live in traditional villages. Imagine being up all night as winds of 250kms pound your house and that of your neighbours. In the morning you go outside to find that somehow your house is still standing but those of your friends and family have literally ‘blown away’. No pots or pans; no knives and forks; no plates or cups. Your local school or kindy is now just a concrete slab without walls, roof, desks, chairs or books. This is what many people in Vanuatu faced in March. As a result, it is SHaRM’s objective to rebuild schools so that all children can gain access to an education. We are committed to helping this small island nation rebuild after cyclone Pam.
